Privacy Policy

Introduction

KidzAI ("we," "us," "our," or "the App") is an educational platform designed for children under 13 years of age to learn about artificial intelligence through interactive lessons, quizzes, and mini-games. We are committed to protecting the privacy of children and comply with applicable children's privacy laws including the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), and other relevant data protection regulations.

By downloading, installing, or using KidzAI, you (the parent or legal guardian) acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with this policy, please do not use the App.

Information We Collect

Information Provided by Users

At the time of first launch, the App asks the child for a first name or nickname and an avatar selection for personalization purposes. This information is stored exclusively on the device using browser localStorage and is never transmitted to our servers or any third party. It is used solely to personalize the in-app experience (e.g., greeting the child by name). Parents can clear this data at any time through the Parents Dashboard or by clearing the app's data in device settings.

Information We Do NOT Collect

• We do not require account creation, registration, or login.
• We do not collect email addresses, phone numbers, physical addresses, or any other contact information.
• We do not collect photos, videos, or audio recordings.
• We do not collect precise geolocation data.
• We do not collect any persistent device identifiers for the purpose of identifying individual children.

Local Data Storage

The App stores the following data locally on the device using browser localStorage:

• Child's first name or nickname (for personalization).
• Selected avatar.
• Learning progress (completed lessons, earned stars, and badges).
• Voice preference settings.

This data:

• Is stored exclusively on the user's device.
• Is never transmitted to our servers or any third party.
• Cannot be used to identify any individual.
• Can be cleared at any time by the parent/guardian through the Parents Dashboard or device settings.

AI Chat Feature

The App includes an AI-powered educational chat assistant ("KAI"). When a child sends a message to KAI, the text of that message is transmitted to a third-party AI service provider in order to generate an educational response.

• Messages are processed in real-time and are not permanently stored by us.
• No personal identifiers (name, device ID, location, etc.) are included in the data sent to the AI service provider.
• The chat is designed to be educational and age-appropriate, with built-in content safety filters.
• Chat history is stored only in the device's local memory during the active session and is not persisted.
• The AI service provider's use of this data is governed by their own privacy policy and data processing terms. We may change AI service providers from time to time to improve the experience.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to collect anonymized, aggregated usage data to understand how the App is used and to improve the learning experience. This may include:

• Pages and screens viewed.
• Session duration and frequency of use.
• General device information (device type, operating system, screen resolution).
• Approximate geographic region (country/city level, not precise location).
• App feature usage patterns (e.g., which lessons are most popular).

Important: We have configured Google Analytics in compliance with children's privacy requirements:

• Advertising features and remarketing are disabled.
• User-ID tracking is disabled.
• Data is used solely for internal product improvement purposes.
• IP addresses are anonymized.
• No data is shared with Google for advertising or benchmarking purposes.
• Data retention is set to the minimum period necessary for analysis.

Google's use of analytics data is governed by the Google Privacy Policy.

Text-to-Speech

The App uses text-to-speech technology to read lesson content aloud. This is processed entirely on the device using native system capabilities. No audio data is recorded, stored, or transmitted.

Third-Party Services

The App uses the following third-party services:

• Vercel — Web hosting infrastructure. Standard server logs (IP address, browser type, request timestamps) may be collected automatically as part of normal web server operations. These logs are not used to identify or profile children.
• Third-party AI service provider — Powers the AI chat feature. Only the chat message text is sent; no personal data or identifiers are transmitted. The specific provider may change over time.
• Google Analytics 4 — Anonymized usage analytics for product improvement. Configured with children's privacy protections as described above.

We do not sell, rent, or share any data with third parties for commercial, advertising, or marketing purposes.

Parental Controls & Rights

We believe parents and guardians should have full control over their child's data and experience. The App includes a Parents Dashboard that allows parents/guardians to:

• View their child's learning progress and activity.
• Monitor time spent in the app.
• Reset or delete all locally stored data at any time.

Since all personal data (name, avatar, progress) is stored locally on the device and never on our servers, parents have complete and immediate control over this data. Clearing the app data or uninstalling the App permanently removes all stored information.

If you believe we have inadvertently collected personal information from a child, please contact us immediately and we will take steps to delete such information.

Advertising

The App does not display any advertisements. We do not use advertising SDKs, ad tracking technologies, or any form of targeted or behavioral advertising.

Data Security

We take the security of your child's information seriously. Our security measures include:

• All communication between the App and our servers uses HTTPS/TLS encryption.
• Personal data (name, progress) is stored only on the local device and is never transmitted to external servers.
• API keys and sensitive credentials are stored server-side and are never exposed to the client.

While no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure, we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect any data associated with the App.

Children's Privacy (COPPA Compliance)

KidzAI is designed for children under 13. We are committed to complying with COPPA and other applicable children's privacy laws. In summary:

• We do not collect personal information from children beyond a first name/nickname stored locally on the device.
• We do not require children to provide personal information to use the App's core features.
• We do not share children's data with third parties for commercial purposes.
• Parents can review and delete all locally stored data at any time.
• We do not use behavioral advertising or interest-based targeting.

Data Retention

All user data (name, avatar, learning progress) is stored locally on the device and is retained until manually cleared by the user or parent. We do not retain any personal data on our servers. Analytics data collected via Google Analytics is retained in anonymized, aggregated form and is subject to Google's data retention policies.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, technology, legal requirements, or other factors. Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. We encourage parents and guardians to review this policy periodically. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
